the start of it all.
Our origin comes back to comprehensive diagnosis and treatment planning. always. It's about what's best for the patient, what's best for this community. The Alpha Omega Study Club was founded in 2007 by Dr. Marv Johnson, now Co-Director alongside his partner, Dr. Thomas Kolodge. Seattle Study Club directors are bound together by a common goal and a shared belief system. They all seek to raise the level of dentistry practiced in their local communities. They believe that the Seattle Study Club educational model is the best means to accomplish that goal.
Seattle Study Club, Inc. is an international network of doctors interested in furthering their knowledge to provide excellent care to each and every patient that comes into their practice. There are over 250 clubs in the network located in the United States, Canada, Australia, Germany, Japan, China, Spain, and India.
Each club meets regularly for interactive educational programs, discussion on the latest developments in dentistry and presentations by world-renowned clinical speakers. These meetings provide a forum for each member doctor to discuss and plan cases with the collective knowledge of the entire group.
We are often asked what makes this organization so special.
The Seattle Study Club organization provides all sorts of tangible tools to manage a study club, but that isn’t what makes this particular network so special. We provide the knowledge and support to join our existing “university without walls” as well as create one on your own in your community, but that’s not the only thing that makes us special either.
We work every day to help our members strengthen their practices, enhance relationships with peers and increase impact on the dental community. We generate dozens of new ideas every year to help our members accomplish their goals. Our local clubs offer educational experiences that exceed the highest expectations of excellence.
Whether you’re completing your degree in dentistry or transitioning your practice, the Seattle Study Club global network has something for everyone. In fact, directors are contacted regularly from sharp future clinicians who are attempting to pave the way for long, rewarding careers in dentistry.
The New Dentist magazine reveals what makes the Seattle Study Club worldwide network such an effective forum for growth, change and development.
We believe effective study clubs have 3 fundamental principles.
There are three major principles that encompass the core of the Seattle Study Club. The first is the philosophy that neither ideal learning nor ideal dentistry can be attained by a random exposure to various techniques and treatment modalities, even if those techniques, taken individually, represent “state-of-the-art” treatment. Rather, the highest and most beneficial knowledge and treatment results from total case management—an appreciation of the “big picture” and a true understanding of the role any given technique or treatment plays in that picture.
The second principle is that we learn more by participation and clinical interaction than by observation. Through “hands-on” experience in clinical sessions, club members enhance their treatment planning skills and learn how to bring an “expert’s” touch to the type of cases they treat every day.
The third principle is the idea that learning with and from one’s peers in a structured and supportive environment is the most effective way to master the challenges posed by the dental profession. The study club provides a forum for a comprehensive curriculum incorporating all aspects of clinical, didactic and academic learning.
Clinicians within the Seattle Study Club organization are motivated to learn more and achieve a higher level of comprehensive care for their patients. The Seattle Study Club network is a true university without walls, providing so much more than continuing education for dentists—we cultivate knowledge, understanding, collaboration and camaraderie and, together, we continue to impact the way dentistry is practiced.
These intangible benefits elevate the Seattle Study Club network to a level that goes way beyond traditional continuing educational programs in dentistry.
There are over 250 Seattle Study Club affiliates around the world—each one dedicated to cultivating excellence in comprehensive dentistry. If you are interested in joining your local club, please call Mountain View Oral Surgery at 503-472.1468 or contact Makenna Stolle at mvoralsurgery.com.
